If only dogs could talk…

If a dog could talk, he’d have said to me: “I love …”

No, wait! I don’t have a dog, so there’s no one to say anything.
Say I had a dog, and he could talk? he’d have said, “I love …”

No, wait! If I just got a dog, he’d not say the same thing.
Say I had a dog for a while, he’d have said: “I love …”

No, wait! Even if he said anything I wouldn’t understand it.
Say my dog could speak in a way I understand, he’d say …

No, wait! he wouldn’t speak in an organized way we humans talk.
Say my dog speaks like a human, he’d say “I’d love to …”

No, wait! If he speaks and someone else knows, he’d end up in a lab.
Say my dog could speak English and were alone with me, he’d say …

No, wait! If I’m alone and my dog could speak, it might be just stupid.
Say my dog made sense, and spoke to me, he’d say “I love you…”

No, wait! If my dog made sense and spoke, and told me he loves me,
I’d already been traveling with him, but not typing this story here.
